Happy Summer From Hidden Springs Farms

Posted 6/4/2012 9:37pm by Karen Wortman .

Hi to Everyone!

Forgive me for being a bit late on the June Newsletter.  May flew by and I never seem to have enough time to get everything done.  It is hard to believe it is June already.  Of course, it has felt like June for awhile now with our crazy weather.

There is quite a bit going on at the farm these days.  First, Cher, one of our ducks, has been sitting on her nest for awhile now and finally, we have baby ducks.  She is not very happy about people getting close so this picture isn't the best, but you can see one of the little guys. I think there are about 6.  Again, Cher won't let us get too close!  I'll post some better pictures on Facebook once she takes them all out for their first swim.  Baby ducks are very cute!

Another of our new laying hens some how figured out how to get from the coop into the garden shed and has built a nest on the top shelf where I store pots and potting supplies.  I was cleaning the shed one afternoon and didn't even notice her until I went to put something up on the shelf.  She is using some of my potting supplies for her nest.  I'll have to keep a good eye on her because I have no idea how she plans on getting the chicks down.

We had a great first month at the Farmer's Market.  If you haven't come by yet, plan on coming by soon.  Every Saturday from 8:30 - Noon at the Robertson County Fair Grounds you'll find great veggies, fruits, beef, chicken, eggs, plants, breads, and more.  Plus, everything is grown or raised in Robertson County.  You can't get much fresher then that!

For our Goat's Milk Soap fans, we have some NEW fragrances coming soon.  Here's some of the new line-up:

**Cucumber Mint:  The cool, minty fragrance is light and great for summer.  We have included some dried mint in the soap as well.

** Ginger Lime:  We love Ginger!  We love Lime!  We love this combination.  A light coppery color and shredded loofah added.

**Pinot Grigio:  For the wine-lover, Pinot Grigio is a light fragrance that will remind you of a nice classy glass of wine.

** Wake-Up Rosemary:  If you love the smell of fresh Rosemary, you'll love this new soap.  We use dried rosemary in the soap as well.

We have also changed our packaging.  Come by the Farmer's Market to see our new labels and boxes.

If you are interested in learning how to make your own Herbal Salves & Lip Balms, join us for our "Making Salves & Lip Balm" class on June 30th from 1:00 - 3:00.  The class is just $25.00 and we supply everything you'll need.  You'll leave class with your own Herbal Salve and lip balm that you create.  To register, just email us.

Don't forget that Father's Day is coming on June 17th!  And, enjoy the start of your Summer!

So glad to see that Cher hatched her ducklings! We enjoyed the class with you a few weeks ago. I can't wait to get my goats!
